Wonder Woman Sequel And Charlie’s Angels Reboot Delayed

Those looking forward to the Gal Gadot Wonder Woman sequel will have to wait a little longer now, as it was announced the film would be shifting from its November 1, 2019 opening to June 5, 2020. The Charlie’s Angels reboot starring Kristen Stewart is also on the move, but not nearly as long. It will now open on November 1 2019 instead of September 27, 2019.

Wonder Woman 1984 was one of the few DC Comics based superhero movies that has been anticipated, which is due to the success of the first film. The 2017 film  earned $821.8 million worldwide, including $412.6 million in North America. It is the highest grossing movie with a female director, and the 25th highest-grossing movies of all time in North America. Patty Jenkins has returned to direct, with Gal Gadot and Chris Pine both returning to their roles as Diana Prince and Steve Trevor respectively. Kristen Wiig joined the cast to play the villain Cheetah. Originally the film was set to be released on December 20 2019, but was moved up to avoid competing with Star Wars: Episode IX which was due to be released the following week. Gal Gadot Tweeted about the move, saying “Super excited to announce that, thanks to the changing landscape, we are able to put Wonder Woman back to its rightful home. June 5, 2020. Be there or be square!!!” This is of course referring to the fact that the first Wonder Woman movie was released in the summer, and not the fall.

The Charlie’s Angels reboot starring Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska was due to open next September, but due to the Wonder Woman sequel shifting dates, it’s now been pushed back to November instead. The film is set to follow the exploits of a new generation of Angels who work for the mysterious Charlie, who owns the Townsend Agency. While the film is considered to be a reboot, it is also a sequel to the original films that starred Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu. It takes place years later, and the the agency has done grown and gone global.
